Contesting consists of making the maximum number of contacts with other radio amateurs in a&nbsp;defined time. It supports amateur self-training in radiocommunications, including improving operating skills, conducting technical investigations, and intercommunicating with other amateurs.<\/p>\n<p>The <span class=\"caps\">IARU<\/span> and its member societies organise several contests on the different frequency bands.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"caps\">IARU<\/span> and <span class=\"caps\">IARU<\/span> Region 1&nbsp;organise the following contests:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iaru.org\/on-the-air\/iaru-contests\/rules\/\"><span class=\"caps\">IARU<\/span> <span class=\"caps\">HF<\/span> Championship<\/a>\u2009\u2014\u2009a&nbsp;worldwide contest during the 2<sup class=\"ordinal\">nd<\/sup> weekend of July, coordinated by the <a href=\"https:\/\/arrl.org\"><span class=\"caps\">ARRL<\/span><\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"caps\">IARU-R1<\/span> organises contests on 50 MHz, 70 MHz, 144 MHz and 432 MHz <span class=\"amp\">&amp;<\/span>&nbsp;higher, and also an <span class=\"caps\">ATV<\/span> contest.
