Each Region also has its own <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iaru-r2.org\/en\/reference\/constitution\/\">Constitution<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"caps\">IARU<\/span>&nbsp;is directed globally by the Administrative Council (<span class=\"caps\">AC<\/span>), comprising the officers together with two representatives of each Region.<\/p>\n<p>The Administrative Council:<\/p>\n<p>a) coordinates the representation or the interests of amateur radio at international telecommunications conferences with the regional organisations, under the direction of the President;<\/p>\n<p>b) establishes long-range planning in close cooperation with the regional organisations to preserve the basic purposes of amateur radio;<\/p>\n<p>c) serves as coordinator between the regional organisations on all matters of mutual interest;<\/p>\n<p>d) formulates such proposals for consideration by the Member-Societies as may be necessary to further the objectives of the&nbsp;<span class=\"caps\">IARU<\/span>&nbsp;and<\/p>\n<p>c) adopts such resolutions and recommendations as will facilitate the functioning of the&nbsp;<span class=\"caps\">IARU<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The&nbsp;<span class=\"caps\">AC<\/span>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<span class=\"caps\">IARU<\/span>&nbsp;are supported by the International Secretariat, provided by one of <span class=\"caps\">IARU<\/span>\u2019s Member Societies (currently&nbsp;<span class=\"caps\">ARRL<\/span>).<\/p>\n<p>The President and Vice President of&nbsp;<span class=\"caps\">IARU<\/span>&nbsp;are elected by the Member Societies following a&nbsp;selection process coordinated by the International Secretariat. They serve for five&nbsp;years.<\/p>\n<p>The three regions determine their own strategies within the overall&nbsp;<span class=\"caps\">IARU<\/span>&nbsp;framework, through their three-yearly General Conferences. The officers and Executive Committees are elected at each General Conference.<\/p>\n<p>Member Societies are elected as members of&nbsp;<span class=\"caps\">IARU<\/span>&nbsp;globally but participate in the work of their respective Region.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"caps\">IARU<\/span>\u2019s main focus is on representing the spectrum interests of amateur radio to the&nbsp;<span class=\"caps\">ITU<\/span>, the Regional Telecommunications Organisations and to&nbsp;<span class=\"caps\">CISPR<\/span>. Policies are developed in partnership with Member Societies and&nbsp;<span class=\"caps\">IARU<\/span>&nbsp;draws heavily on experts from Member Societies to develop position papers and to advocate <span class=\"caps\">IARU<\/span>\u2019s position in regulatory meetings.<\/p>\n<p>On the pages to the left you will find explanations of how the&nbsp;<span class=\"caps\">IARU<\/span>&nbsp;is governed and the important roles played by volunteers who work through the&nbsp;<span class=\"caps\">IARU<\/span>&nbsp;and its member-societies for the protection and promotion of the amateur and amateur-satellite services.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"caps\">IARU<\/span>&nbsp;governance is defined in the Constitution.
