\"taller\"<\/a>A joint A joint CITEL-ITU<\/span> Emergency Telecommunications Workshop was held on Monday, May 25, 2015 in the ancient city of Cusco, Peru, sponsored by the government of the United States in the framework of CITEL<\/span>\u0092s CCP<\/span>\u2011I XXVI<\/span> Meeting. Among those present were Brahima Sanou, UIT<\/span>\u2011D Director, Clovis Baptista, CITEL<\/span> Executive Secretary, Gonzalo Ruiz D\u00edaz, president of OSIPTEL<\/span>, the Peruvian telecommunications regulator, Bruno Ramos, UIT<\/span> Region II<\/span> Director, our colleague Jonathan Siverling, WB3ERA<\/span>, from the ARRL<\/span>, as Rapporteur, and C\u00e9sar P\u00edo Santos, IARU-R2<\/span> EMCOR<\/span>.<\/p>\n

The workshop counted on the participation of emergency telecommunications experts, who presented their experiences in diverse natural phenomena that have affected the region in recent years. Besides, there were descriptions of early warning systems and of technologies currently in use.<\/p>\n

\u2009\u2014 Pablo V\u00e1squez, OA4AI<\/span> from Radio Club Peruano (RCP<\/span>)
\u2009\u2014 Javier Garc\u00eda, from INDOTEL<\/span> (Dominican Republic)
\u2009\u2014 Guillermo Bill, representing Argentina
\u2009\u2014 Representatives of NASA<\/span>, the FCC<\/span> and the satellite industry of the United States
\u2009\u2014 Marco C\u00e1ceres, Chilean Telecommunications Undersecretary
\u2009\u2014 And others<\/p>\n

As a result of the workshop, a Rapporteur\u0092s Report will be prepared on Disaster Prevention, Response and Mitigation by the Working Group on Development of the Permanent Consultative Committee I (PCC<\/span> I) of CITEL<\/span>.<\/p>\n

C\u00e9sar P\u00edo Santos, HR2P<\/span>, EMCOR<\/span>, IARU-R2<\/span>, considered that the workshop had very positive results and that it is expected that it will contribute to improve the regional preparedness and efficiency in cases of disasters and the consolidation of the efforts of the entities involved, where radio amateurs have always had significant participation.<\/p>\n
