<\/a>In Cuba, radio amateurs are constantly preparing to face earthquakes, intense hurricanes and periods of intense and widespread drought, as well as events of other nature. With that objective in mind, an exercise called \u0093Meteoro\u0094 (Meteor) is held every year, which puts all the factors that participate in its development under stress.<\/p>\n

Federaci\u00f3n de Radioaficionados de Cuba (FRC<\/span>), as an International Amateur Radio Union (IARU-R2<\/span>) Member Society located in the Caribbean area, works systematically to provide attention to this important activity, due to the risk factors entailed by its geographical location and prioritizes efforts in this direction.<\/p>\n

\u0093Meteoro 2017\u0094 will be held on May 20 and 21, led by the Civil Defense Staff and in this framework, hundreds of radio amateurs from all locations will be mobilized. They form part of the National Emergency Network (abbreviated REN<\/span> in Spanish), who supports these events, the stability of communications and prove, once again, their efficiency under special circumstances.<\/p>\n

Historically, October is when the greatest number of hurricanes strikes Cuba in the cyclone season (data from 1800 to 2016 provided by the Weather Center of the Meteorology Institute).<\/p>\n
