{"id":2866,"date":"2018-08-23T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-08-22T22:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/beta.iaru-r2.org\/donation-of-radio-communications-equipment-from-itu-to-copeco-in-honduras\/"},"modified":"2018-08-23T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2018-08-22T22:00:00","slug":"donation-of-radio-communications-equipment-from-itu-to-copeco-in-honduras","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.iaru-r2.org\/en\/donation-of-radio-communications-equipment-from-itu-to-copeco-in-honduras\/","title":{"rendered":"Donation of radio communications equipment from <span class=\"caps\">ITU<\/span> to <span class=\"caps\">COPECO<\/span> in Honduras"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today, August 22, 2018, the National Telecommunications Commission of Honduras (abbreviated <span class=\"caps\">CONATEL<\/span> in Spanish), delivered radio communications equipment to <span class=\"caps\">COPECO<\/span>, donated by <span class=\"caps\">ITU<\/span> for emergency communications.<\/p>\n<p>Honduras is part of a&nbsp;pilot project of <span class=\"caps\">ITU<\/span> that includes Central America and the Caribbean, aiming to achieve full implementation in South America.<\/p>\n<p>Miguel Alcaine, <span class=\"caps\">ITU<\/span> Area D&nbsp;Representative, said: \u0093The most important thing is that <span class=\"caps\">CONATEL<\/span>, <span class=\"caps\">COPECO<\/span> and the radio amateurs start working with the WinLink tool. I&nbsp;am very happy to know that we are doing something before disaster strikes\u0094.<\/p>\n<p>Lisandro Rosales, National Commissioned Minister of <span class=\"caps\">COPECO<\/span>, stated that \u0093one of <span class=\"caps\">COPECO<\/span>\u0092s objectives has been the strengthening of information and communication technologies (ICTs), and thanks to them, the institution has one of the most powerful communications networks of the region, with coverage of 95% of the national territory\u0094.<\/p>\n<p>Minister Rosales also said that \u0093We have realized that telecommunications is a&nbsp;key element in order to give early warnings and to warn about imminent danger, or to coordinate assistance or reconstruction activities\u0094.<\/p>\n<p>The cooperation agreement also includes a&nbsp;training process.
