{"id":4537,"date":"2020-05-05T16:17:28","date_gmt":"2020-05-05T14:17:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.iaru-r2.org\/?p=4537"},"modified":"2020-05-05T20:12:24","modified_gmt":"2020-05-05T18:12:24","slug":"iaru-region-2s-virtual-workshops-are-now-underway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.iaru-r2.org\/en\/iaru-region-2s-virtual-workshops-are-now-underway\/","title":{"rendered":"<span class=\"caps\">IARU<\/span> Region 2\u2019s Virtual Workshops are now underway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>May 4<sup class=\"ordinal\">th<\/sup>,&nbsp;2020<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, April 29<sup class=\"ordinal\">th<\/sup>, <span class=\"caps\">IARU<\/span> Region 2&nbsp;presented the first of its program of Virtual Workshops in English and Spanish with \u201cWhat is WinLink and its importance during Emergency Communications\u201d (in Spanish).<\/p>\n<p>The workshop presenter was Alfonso Tamez, <span class=\"caps\">XE2O<\/span> of the <span class=\"caps\">FEDERACION<\/span> <span class=\"caps\">MEXICANA<\/span> <span class=\"caps\">DE<\/span> <span class=\"caps\">RADIOEXPERIMENTADORES<\/span>. He gave an insightful view into the usefulness and application of WinLink during emergencies, based on his past and ample experience, offering&nbsp;participants an understanding of the importance of having such a&nbsp;tool available during an emergency.<\/p>\n<p>Workshop&nbsp;attendance was far larger than expected with participants from at least 18 countries including Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Indonesia, M\u00e9xico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, United States, Uruguay and Venezuela. The total number of attendees exceeded 180!<\/p>\n<p>The formal presentation was followed by a&nbsp;Question-and-Answer session with participants able to ask questions using both the Zoom platform as well as through the <span class=\"caps\">IARU<\/span> Region 2\u2019s YouTube Workshops channel. The initial estimated time of 90 minutes was extended beyond two hours to accommodate the high level of interest.<\/p>\n<p>The use of Zoom together with the simultaneous broadcast via <span class=\"caps\">IARU<\/span> Region 2\u2019s Workshops YouTube channel (<a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/2SD82kx\">https:\/\/\u200bbit\u200b.ly\/\u200b2\u200bS\u200bD\u200b8\u200b2kx<\/a> or at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCnG2Srz0bsKmTbF2r3YNneQ\">https:\/\/\u200bwww\u200b.youtube\u200b.com\/\u200bc\u200bh\u200ba\u200bn\u200bn\u200be\u200bl\u200b\/\u200bU\u200bC\u200bn\u200bG\u200b2\u200bS\u200br\u200bz\u200b0\u200bb\u200bs\u200bK\u200bm\u200bT\u200bb\u200bF\u200b2\u200br\u200b3\u200bY\u200bN\u200bneQ<\/a>) enabled expansion of the number of participants from the 100 users Zoom platform maximum, as the YouTube channel is unlimited. The only difference is that questions made on the YouTube channel chat are forwarded to the instructor via the moderator.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the workshop, participants expressed their satisfaction as well as their desire to continue with more workshops as soon as possible. All future workshops will be announced as soon as they become available on <span class=\"caps\">IARU<\/span> Region 2\u2019s website (www\u200b.iaru\u200b-r2\u200b.org\/en) where you will also find a&nbsp;registration sign-up form.
