{"id":5270,"date":"2021-11-29T22:55:42","date_gmt":"2021-11-29T21:55:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.iaru-r2.org\/?p=5270"},"modified":"2021-11-29T22:55:42","modified_gmt":"2021-11-29T21:55:42","slug":"yota-month-continues-to-expand-into-the-americas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.iaru-r2.org\/en\/yota-month-continues-to-expand-into-the-americas\/","title":{"rendered":"<span class=\"caps\">YOTA<\/span> Month Continues to Expand into the Americas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Youth-operated stations around the world will be part of a&nbsp;special event celebrating youth in amateur radio during the month of December.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"caps\">MONTGOMERY<\/span>, Alabama, November 27, 2021\u2009\u2014\u2009Amateur radio operators age 25 and younger will be on the air as special event stations around the world throughout December in celebration of youth in amateur radio.&nbsp;<span class=\"caps\">YOTA<\/span> Month stations will be on all bands and modes at various times. <span class=\"caps\">QSL<\/span> and award information is at <a href=\"http:\/\/events.ham-yota.com\/\">http:\/\/\u200bevents\u200b.ham\u200b-yota\u200b.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In the United States this year, the callsigns will once again be <span class=\"caps\">K8Y<\/span>, <span class=\"caps\">K8O<\/span>, <span class=\"caps\">K8T<\/span>, and <span class=\"caps\">K8A<\/span>.&nbsp;Three new countries will be participating for the first time!&nbsp;Argentina will be active as <span class=\"caps\">LR1YOTA<\/span>, Cuba as <span class=\"caps\">CO\u00d8YOTA<\/span>, and Peru as <span class=\"caps\">OA\u00d8YOTA<\/span>. We may also have other countries that will be added soon.&nbsp;Amateur radio operators should be encouraged to listen for and contact these stations as well as all callsigns ending in the letters \u201c<span class=\"caps\">YOTA<\/span>\u201d across the&nbsp;globe.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty-eight operators in the Americas participated last year, and this year we expect to see an increased level of youth activity from South America.&nbsp;Last year, young hams worldwide surpassed their goal of 100,000 QSOs in the month of December with a&nbsp;final tally of 137,000.&nbsp;14,700 of those QSOs were made by stations in the Americas.<\/p>\n<p>Overlapping with <span class=\"caps\">YOTA<\/span> month is round 3&nbsp;of the <span class=\"caps\">YOTA<\/span> Contest, which is on December 30, 2021 from 1200 to 2359&nbsp;<span class=\"caps\">UTC<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>More information about <span class=\"caps\">YOTA<\/span> Month specifically in the Americas can be found at <a href=\"http:\/\/youthontheair.org\/\">http:\/\/\u200bYouthOnTheAir\u200b.org<\/a>.
