The IARU<\/span> Region 2 General Assembly will be held as a virtual conference, October 31 through November 4 in five sessions, each starting at 2300 UTC<\/span>. Below is some basic information for Member Societies to begin their preparations to participate in the General Assembly which governs IARU<\/span> Region 2.<\/p>\n

What is a General Assembly? <\/strong><\/p>\n

The General Assembly is a business meeting of the Member Societies of Region 2. Among the business conducted is:<\/p>\n

Receiving reports from Member Societies and R2<\/span> Committees to share information on the amateur activities in the region<\/p>\n

Affirming the actions of the Executive Committee taken since the last General Assembly<\/p>\n

Election of Officers and Area Directors<\/p>\n

Consideration of any proposals brought forth by either a R2<\/span> Committee or Member Society.<\/p>\n

Selection of the host society for the 2025 General Assembly<\/p>\n

Who attends?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Each Member Society designates a Head of Delegation (HoD) as their official representative. Designation is by the society IARU<\/span> Liaison informing the Secretary of their choice. This should be done as soon as possible, preferably no later than September 1. The Credentials Committee reviews and certifies that the designation is in order, including whether the society is current on its dues. The HoD leads the society\u2019s delegation, identifies the other delegates from her\/his society, and casts the society\u2019s vote. Observers from the IARU<\/span> International Secretariat, and the other IARU<\/span> Regions are invited.<\/p>\n

Pre-conference Committee Meetings:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Standing Committees (Band Planning, EMCOM<\/span>, Monitoring System, etc.) will meet in well advance of the General Assembly to prepare their reports of activities over the past three years and to table any proposals that may require ratification by the General Assembly. Proposals must be submitted by September 15.<\/p>\n

Pre-conference Activities:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Member Societies: Identify your Head of Delegation and Delegates as soon as possible via an email from the IARU<\/span> Liaison to the Secretary.<\/p>\n

Elections Committee: three volunteers from among the delegates are needed to compose the committee. Any delegate who is interested should identify themselves to Secretary. Committee membership will be voted upon in the first plenary session (Oct 31) of the virtual General Assembly. The Committee will be working closely with the company providing the online voting services.<\/p>\n

Credentials Committee: three volunteers from among the delegates review the society submissions to determine whether these meet the requirements of the Constitution, Bylaws, and Standard Operating Procedures. Any delegate who is interested should identify themselves to Secretary. Committee membership will be voted upon in the first plenary session (Oct 31) of the virtual General Assembly.<\/p>\n

This is the first of several information bulletins on preparations needed by Member Societies for the General Assembly. There will be an announcement of the General Assembly website (currently being developed) when it is available.
