In December 2024, Mexico joined the Youth on the Air (YOTA) project in the Americas, under the direction of Neil Rapp, WB9VPG, who coordinates the program in our region.

The Youth on the Air program aims to foster youth participation in amateur radio through educational, technical, and social activities, including YOTA Month (during December), annual competitions, and summer camps, both in the Americas and Europe. These experiences allow young people to develop, connect with colleagues from other countries, and enrich their knowledge in an international and collaborative environment.

In this next stage of the project in Mexico, your support is essential. Therefore, we ask radio clubs to:

1. Create a registry of radio amateurs between 18 and 25 years of age with a valid license, as well as young applicants interested in being part of the project and who share the enthusiasm and curiosity for amateur radio. Although many activities require a current license, there are others — such as YOTA Month — in which applicants can actively participate.
2. Provide support and assistance to these young people, facilitating their integration without allowing distance or resources to be an impediment, and eventually promoting the presence of the YOTA project in each state.

According to the program’s current regulations, the coordinating committee must be composed solely of active members of the YOTA program. Therefore, the registration of licensed young people is key to ensuring the project’s continuity in Mexico and its international reach.

This program represents a unique opportunity to strengthen youth amateur radio in our country, expand its reach, and show new generations the advantages and horizons that this exciting activity offers.
