FRC, IARU MEMBER SOCIETY COMMEMORATING ITS 50TH ANNIVERSARY

frc-50In the VII Congress, Cuban radio amateurs designated 2016 as the year of the 50th anniversary of Federación de Radioaficionados de Cuba (FRC). This event shouldn’t go unnoticed to other IARU member societies, whose members share activities daily in the waves, enjoying together the charms of our universal hobby.

Founded on July 16, 1966, with less than one thousand members, FRC currently has more than ten thousand. This ten-fold increase in the half century of existence proves FRC to be a strong society, not only because of that growth, but for the results of its basic activity, its links to the community and the ever-growing recognition from Cuban society.

Nowadays, the presence of Cuban operators in leading international contests, and their results at all levels are not surprising for those that have been aware of their activity on the waves and of their achievements in these 50 years.

Due to its geographic location, Cuba faces a hurricane season every year, as do other societies in the Caribbean and North and Central America, with considerable effects for all residents. This has led FRC to create and strengthen an Emergency Net, which participates along with the Civilian Defense in actions aimed to save lives in these circumstances, as in other potential hazards such as earthquakes or other disasters.

Its organization structures go from Base Sections, Municipal Radio Clubs and province branches, to the National Council and the Executive of this instance. Several activities have been proposed to celebrate these 50 years with great joy, especially in contact with the international radio amateur community.

Diverse events are expected for July 16, 2016, the foundation anniversary of the FRC, including a solemn session of the National Council, exhibitions, contest award ceremonies and a gala in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the organization, besides others that will be held throughout the country.

This will be without a doubt a huge celebration for Cuban radio amateurs from one end to the other of “the Green Cayman”. We hope that colleagues throughout the world join us on the waves; turn your antennas towards Cuba, where you will be greeted by a warm welcome and a fraternal hug.
