Workshops in the IARU-R2 General Assembly

The next IARU-R2 General Assembly, to be held from October 5 to 10, 2025, in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, will dedicate two sessions to workshops.

The first, on the afternoon of October 9th, will be a presentation by Flávio Archangelo (PY2ZX), focus on “ITU and RTOs: The importance of international regulation in spectrum management. How IARU’s experience at ITU and CITEL can assist national, regional, and international regulatory environments.” The objective is to explain the institutional structure responsible for international telecommunications regulation, its interaction with national standards, the contribution of IARU and administrations to this process, and selection of useful normative references to the member societies.

Also on October 9th, we will have the traditional workshop on emergency communications, led by Hilton Libanori (PY2BBQ). He will present “Amateur Radio’s Role in Emergencies in Brazil. The restructuring of RENER – Current Status.” Emergency communications are regularly covered in IARU workshops, providing a great opportunity for experts from different countries to learn from each other experiences, reinforcing this essential voluntary activity of amateur radio worldwide.

October 10th will begin with a presentation on “IARP, CEPT, and Bilateral Agreements: How to Increase International Integration through mutual recognition of licenses,” to be given by Flávio Archangelo (PY2ZX). This workshop will present updated versions of regional agreements and examples of bilateral agreements on mutual recognition of licenses that can be considered by member societies with national telecommunications administrations and diplomatic authorities, thereby increasing the international and operational integration of amateur radio operators.

Next up will be a workshop on “Amateur Satellite Service: A summary of the service’s objectives, its importance in education and technological development, main activities, guidelines, and the IARU frequency coordination,” led by Edson Pereira (PY2SDR). This presentation will provide information on the relevance of space activities to amateur radio and frequency coordination, which is essential for spectrum management and the development of amateur radio missions.

Finally, Ronaldo Val (PS8RV) will give a presentation on “Awards and Institutional Relations. How the development of awards can stimulate amateur radio and foster integration with society, organizations, and governments.” This workshop will demonstrate how the development of award programs boosts amateur radio and expands the network of interactions between official institutions, providing opportunities for new activities and joint projects.

All registered participants in the General Assembly will be able to participate in the workshops, which will be held in Portuguese, with simultaneous translation into English and Spanish. For more information, visit https://iaru.labre.net.br/workshops/
