Dominican Ham’s stablished radio communications between Dominican Republic, Haiti and the rest of the world

Haiti Amateur Radio help teamsIn an unprecedented act in the history of the Dominican Republic; the Dominican Radio Club, Inc. (RCD) organization that groups the ham radio operators in the Dominican Republic since the 1926, sent to the border with Haiti in the early morning of the past Friday 15 of January, a technical team with the mision to establish a system to serve as communications radio bridge between the Dominican Republic and Haiti.

The team conformed by: Yoaldy Cleto (HI8RYC), Vantroi Peña (HI8VP), Jaime Morcelo (HI8JNS), Rodrigo Garcia (HI8ROD), Angel Carpio (HI8ABC) and Harold Pantaleon archive it’s mision, making possible the link between both nations after the earthquake that had as epicenter the capital of Haiti.

Jointly with the technical team, was sent a radio operators team (integrated by: Candido Guzmán (HI8CJG), Teddy Jimenez (HI3TEJ) – one of the world champions in Ham Radio Contests, David Flores (HI8DBF) and Fausto Alvarado (HI8FLB)) to install an emergency radio communications station (HI8RCD/HH) that operates at the Dominican Embassy in Port au Prince.

The frequencies being used for the system established by the Dominican Radio Club are: 146.880 ‑600 tone 100 in the border and Haiti (including Port au Prince) and 146.970 ‑600 tone 100 covering the 85% of the territory of the Dominican Republic and part of the west coast of Puerto Rico. The communications of this network can be listened on the internet accessing the 0604 node of Wires 2 and Hi8PAL station in Echolink.

This network has been recognized and actually used by the Dominican Red Cross, the Civil Protection Agency, the Emergency Operations Center (COE) of the Dominican Republic and by the Secretary of State of the Dominican Armed Forces office, like the only radio communications system able to completely cover almost the entire island.
