World Amateur Radio Day | “Advancing the spirit of amateur radio through innovation” | April 18, 2026

In commemorating World Amateur Radio Day, we extend our greetings to all radio amateurs around the world, recognizing their dedication to a service that, since its origins, has driven significant advances in radiocommunications. As our message expresses, “there is always, always, something new to discover in amateur radio”, and it is precisely that vocation to explore the unknown that has allowed our community to pioneer numerous innovative technologies.

Entering its second century, the IARU continues to work tirelessly to promote innovation within amateur radio, defend our spectrum assignments, pursue opportunities for new assignments, and foster the growth of our service in communities on every continent. Our representation in international and regional bodies – a task entrusted to volunteers from various countries – has been constant since 1932, when we became a sector member of ITU. The commitment and expertise of these volunteers have contributed to remarkable achievements, such as those recently achieved at the WRC-23.

World Amateur Radio Day is an opportunity to reflect on the progress made since 1924 and to celebrate the diversity, collaborative spirit and creativity that characterize our global community. It is also an opportunity to make the world aware of the many attractions of our hobby and inspire new generations to join this technical, educational and socially enriching activity.

We invite all radio amateurs to celebrate this date in the most authentic way: going on the air and enjoying what brings us together.

73,
José Arturo Molina, YS1MS
President, IARU Region 2
